13th International Doll Festival and the 13th National Doll Making Competition 2009. 04. 24.

13th International Doll Festival and the 13th National Doll Making Competition

All doll makers that have earned a name for themselves in doll making in Hungary feel the need to represent themselves every year on this event with a new creation. The exhibition provides an insight to visitors not only into the world of toy dolls, but also into the representation of the human form that grown-ups also find enchanting.

In addition to the many hundreds of dolls created for this occasion, old dolls, doll accessories and teddy bears are also showcased at the exhibition. The doll creations of German, Austrian doll makers, as well as doll makers from Vojvodina (Serbia) will be exhibited.

Creations received for the toy category of the Amateur Artistic Competition entitled “Amator Artium” and co-organised by the Hungarian Institute for Culture and the Kiss Áron Toy Society will also be displayed at the exhibition.

Main themes for this year’s doll making competition: “Sisi and her age”, “Folk Costumes from the Kiskunság Region”, “Characters of the Tales of Elek Benedek”. Many creations were received in relation to these themes. A number of doll making workshops also await children and grown-ups alike during the exhibition. All visitors can cast a vote in relation to the doll that is most to their liking, the most popular of which will win the Visitors’ Prize of the 13th International Doll Exhibition.

Doll creators will compete in eight competition categories. /Individually designed and created artistic dolls; Dolls created with the use of elements and parts that are commercially available/ In addition to dolls created from scratch, those who only like to fit costumes to dolls may also take part in the competition, in the Costume category, within which there are Folk Costume, Age Specific, Historic and Other subcategories. A good number of teddy bear makers have also enrolled in the competition. Other categories include: Reborn Dolls, Doll World, Life Scenes and Youth Category. The jury consist of well-known experts (members of which are: Ilse Moik, Doris Stannet, Ferencné Keglovich, Hajna Barsi, Eta Hóborné, Dr. Erzsébet Györgyi, Gabriella Szita Fogasné), and the criteria applied by the jury include aesthetics, as well as suitability for playing, in addition to the quality of the technical work. The prizes for the competition are provided by Zichy Palace, the Hungarian Doll Fans Society, the Kiss Áron Hungarian Toy Association, as well as Gödöllő Royal Palace.

On the Doll Conference participants will be given the opportunity to listen to presentation held on one of the specialist fields of toys: the impact of dolls, as a part of which the presenters will highlight the importance of the doll in the activities of teachers, doctors, psychologists, museums, as well as professional and amateur doll makers.
